Testing, Certificates, and Best Practices
Quality assurance (QA) is the backbone of any responsible supplier. Patients and healthcare providers expect safe, effective products — and QA systems ensure those expectations are met from raw material sourcing to final delivery.
A QA program begins with supplier qualification. Use documented vendor evaluation criteria that assess regulatory standing, manufacturing practices, and quality control data. Require certificates of analysis (CoAs), Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) attestations, and batch history reports for every incoming lot. Verify CoAs against independent test results when risk is elevated.
Analytical testing should be risk-based. Classify materials by criticality — active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) and high-risk excipients demand more rigorous testing than low-risk supplies. Use validated analytical methods for identity, purity, potency, and impurity profiling. If your own lab capacity is limited, partner with accredited external laboratories that follow ISO/IEC 17025 standards.
Document control is central to QA. Maintain master specifications, test methods, and release criteria for each product. Ensure that deviations, non-conformances, and corrective actions are recorded, investigated, and closed with documented root-cause analysis.
Cold chain and stability considerations are equally important when relevant. Monitor temperature and humidity during storage and transport, and use data loggers for high-value shipments. Implement batch recall procedures and a rapid traceability system so you can retrieve specific lots fast if a quality issue emerges.
Finally, QA is people and process. Regular training, internal audits, and continuous improvement close gaps before they become incidents. Communicate QA commitments transparently with clients — providing clear CoAs and QA contact points builds trust and long-term partnerships.
